Austin for PSC Seat 5

Fighting for a more affordable future!

Hello! My name is Austin Lawson and I'm running for the Public Service Commission in District 5! I want Louisiana to be a place that the working class can afford. For too long, politicians in both parties have sold us the same lines and lies. Yet, we’ve seen our electricity rates keep going up, while our power keeps going out. I'm sick of it! We can have low utility rates, strong oversight of utility monopolies, and reliable power; we just need a working-class fighter unafraid to shake up the system!

I'm a working-class man shaped by North Louisiana

I'm a working-class man shaped by hard work and rooted in North Louisiana. As a North Louisiana native, born and raised in Coushatta and then Bossier, I owe my whole life to this state and its people. Working in restaurants since high school, I've learned lifetimes of wisdom from the folks I've worked with. The people of this great state are its backbone. Louisiana runs because mothers and fathers show up every day ready to work hard on shop floors, sugarcane fields, assembly lines, and oil rigs. We provide for our families and communities, only to watch them struggle to get by and move elsewhere for better opportunities. This is why I’m taking action!

I know what it’s like living paycheck to paycheck while still breaking your back every day, and I've seen so many working-class folks of this state get screwed over by greedy, corrupt politicians. I know the pain these suits cause to everyday people, and I've seen the tricks they pull to hide it. While struggling to pay my power bills, I saw my rates continue to skyrocket without any improvement in quality, I knew something had to be up for me and for everyone else. I work with too many people on low or fixed incomes who struggle more and more every year, to just sit by and do nothing while we get screwed.

So I'm running for the Public Service Commission. The main goal is to expose the corrupt trinity of puppet politicians, corrupt government, and the donor class. I want to show everyone the backroom decisions that destroy our livelihoods without even a second thought behind it. No business deal or policy detail is too "complicated" or "technical" for working people to understand. When it affects your wallet, you should get a say! While career politicians push for data centers and higher rates, I will push for greater corporate oversight and lower bills for working families!

What is the PSC or Public Service Commission?

Let's break down what I'm actually running for so you understand how important this race is!

So what is the Public Service Commission?

The Public Service Commission or the PSC is the state-wide body that regulates and oversees the public utility monopolies across the state. Commissioners work with cities and municipalities to regulate your water, electricity, gas and more. It is made up of 5 districts that span across the state. I'm running for District 5, which covers all of North Louisiana, from Shreveport to Vidalia. While the PSC is meant to act as one of the major regulators against utility monopolies like Entergy or SWEPCO, it has instead become a revolving door of corporate lobbyists and backroom deals. The Public Service Commission can be a body that works for the people, not the powerful!

Why should you care about the PSC?

Some folks might look at what's at stake this year and ask, "Why should I care about this race?" and while this is a valid question, let me tell y’all, we cannot afford to lose this race! Big Tech has already begun a huge buildout of unregulated data centers in North Louisiana, and these billionaires plan to use up your water and raise your power rates. With all of our so-called "leaders"  ready to sell us out without a second thought, the PSC is the main body that can put the brakes on these projects, making sure they benefit the people. On top of this, even just a single member of the PSC has large oversight authorities which I pledge to use as a weapon on behalf of all working people.
